The Heritage of Shibam

Coffee began in Yemen. Centuries before it reached a single café anywhere else in the world, Yemeni farmers were cultivating coffee cherries in the terraced highlands above the Red Sea, and Yemeni traders were shipping the world's first roasted beans out through the port of Mokha — the city that gave coffee its name. Every latte, every pour-over, every coffee shop on every corner can trace its roots back to that soil.

Shibam takes its name from the ancient walled city in Yemen's Wadi Hadhramaut — often called the "Manhattan of the Desert" for its skyline of soaring mud-brick tower houses, some of the tallest mud structures ever built and still standing after centuries. Shibam is a monument to craft, patience, and hospitality: a place where strangers were always welcomed with coffee, dates, and conversation before business was ever discussed.

That tradition of hospitality is the heart of what we do. In Yemen, qahwa is never rushed. It's brewed with cardamom and ginger, poured for guests before it's poured for yourself, and shared as a sign of welcome. We brought that same spirit to Alpharetta — a place to slow down, gather with people you care about, and taste something with thousands of years of history behind it.

Shibam Coffee Atlanta is our way of bringing that heritage to North Fulton: traditional Yemeni coffee and tea served alongside modern lattes and desserts, in a space built for community, conversation, and connection.
